Band Sponsorships

Friends, Family, and Businesses Can Sponsor the Buffalo Band!

The Manteca High School Band serves nearly 100 student-musicians at Manteca High School. We provide an opportunity for students to develop musical, social, and leadership skills that they can use throughout their life.  We offer three levels of concert bands, a marching band, and a jazz combo program at our campus.  Additionally, many students participate in district, regional, and all-state honors ensembles as well.

As you can probably imagine, the cost to run such a program is great, and although budgets are beginning to look better in California, funding for our program is still minimal.  This is where you can help!  We hope that you will consider becoming a sponsor of the Manteca High School Band.  All sponsorships are handled through the Manteca Band Boosters, a 503 (c) non profit and could be tax exempt!  We hope you will consider donating at one of the following levels:

Why Your Child Should Be in Band

Dear Parents (and parents of junior high students specifically)-

I've been thinking for several years that I wanted to make a video about the benefits of being in high school band, but I've never found the time.  Fortunately, I found someone else who has done exactly what I wanted to.  If you're a parent of a band student and you are wondering why you should sign your child up for band in high school, please take a look at this video.

As always, if you have questions or concerns please contact me! Thanks, Mr. Dahl

Holiday Gift Ideas for Music Students

Looking for the perfect gift for your student-musician? Here are some ideas.

A NEW INSTRUMENT: By the time your student is in high school, it is likely that their beginning Band instrument is not getting the job done for them. See Mr. Dahl if you would like brand and model recommendations. New does not always equal better. It is important to get a quality instrument that is appropriate for your child's level. Also, consider keeping your student (beginner) instruments for marching and pep band so the nice instrument doesn't get banged up.

MOUTHPIECES - many times a student needs a mouthpiece that reflects their growth as a musician, or that plays better with the type of music they are playing. If your student is taking private lessons, talk with their teacher for suggestions. Here are some standard upgrade ideas:

Flute: Sterling silver head-joint

Clarinet: Vandoren B45 (with a Rovner ligature) or Forbes Debut or SF models

Saxes: Selmer C Star (C*)

Trumpet: Bach 3C or 5c

Trombone/Euphonium: Bach Megatone 6.5 AL

PRIVATE LESSONS - a great gift that they can enjoy throughout the year and which will benefit them for life

REEDS - Clarinetists should 'step up' to VANDOREN V12 reeds. or Rico Reserve.

ACCESSORIES

* Metronome or tuner, or even better - one that has both in one unit! The Korg TM-40 is great, small and under $40. The Korg CA-30 (tuner only) can be found for under $20!!

* Jazz or Classical recordings of someone who plays the same instrument your child does.

* Instrument stands (good for trumpet, sax, and especially TROMBONES!!! – no more leaning your horn on the front of a chair!!!)

* Padded neck straps for sax players (such as Neotech).

*Mutes for Trumpets and Trombones. Most all trumpets and trombones will need straight mutes.

* REED CASES for woodwind players (helps keep your spare reeds 'broken-in' and ready to play

Percussionists: snare sticks, yarn mallets, practice pads.
